Introduction

• We all tend to behave diplomatically in our lives to avoid conflicts.
• However, sometimes it becomes necessary, to tell the truth, irrespective of the outcome.
• Last year I had to face such a situation when I had no option but, to tell the truth to my friend.

Who your friend is? 

• Andrew is my bosom friend.
• We studied together for ten years.
• To move our career towards an impressive growth trajectory, we opted for Information technology as a career.

What was the truth?

• We both appeared for an interview in one of the renowned IT companies of our nation.
• I had passed all the rounds of interviews and managed to grab the offer letter.
• But to Andrew’s dismay, he failed to clear the technical round of interview.
• Since his family was going through a severe financial crunch, I tried to find another job for him.
• I had used my contacts to find a job for him and arranged his interview in another reputed company.
• But again he failed to clear the final round of interview.
• Seeing his plight, I was afraid of telling him the truth.
• I had told him that the result of his interview would be announced next month.
• But later on, I realised that I didn’t do the right thing by not telling him the exact status.
• Because he was passing his days under false hope.
• Hence, I decided to tell him the truth.
• Finally, on his birthday I told him the exact feedback of his interview.

What your friend’s reaction was?

• He was under immense shock and cried a lot.
• But he took this failure as a challenge and finally managed to find a plum job with an organisation of repute.
