Sample Answer

A few people believe that inhabitants ought to keep their streets clean and organised, while others think that this is the government’s bounden duty. This essay opines that both residents and the higher authorities should work in unison to achieve this goal.

A section of society postulates that making residents accountable for keeping the streets is a prudent approach. There is no denying this conviction that residents are the major end-users of the roads. Hence, making the inhabitants accountable for the regular upkeep and maintenance of the roads and streets would encourage them to generate less garbage. Japan is the prime example where the surroundings remain hygienic because of the efforts put by the citizens.

On the other hand, many people disagree and feel that the government should take the onus of keeping the streets not only clean but also organised. As per their belief, in this contemporary epoch, fierce competition has become an integral part of their lives. Therefore, managing the regular upkeep of streets would add up to the burden of the residents. Apart from this, governments have the authority to make rules and regulations for maintaining clean and pristine surroundings. For example, The Times of India reported that Chandigarh city has neat and clean streets due to the earnest efforts of its administration.

To conclude, uncleaned and messy streets are a pressing problem across the world. For their regular maintenance and upkeep, both civil society and government should work in tandem. Without the collaborative efforts of both, this goal is hard to achieve.
